Uplift- Network for Inspiration!

Uplift- Network for inspiration group, an initiative of Dream Catchers & Womenlines, organized a networking meet on 25th Sep at Myra’s @stadium, 11 am to 1 pm. The objective was to meet and connect with new entrepreneurs, to empower and support each other, mingle, network, hear an inspiring story, and yes listen to some melodic songs too!!

Bhavana Bahl Malhotra – Mrs.India 2017 Winner – Queen of Substance was the speaker at the meet. Multi-talented Bhavana has been an art director, a fashion stylist, a dancer, a fashion marketer, a fitness instructor, and a model. Her inspirational journey about ups and downs she faced before and after winning the crown, what helped her winning and above all how she keeps herself motivated, to achieve her dreams really inspired the audience. Participants freely interacted with each other, shared their stories, got a chance to network with each other and bonded well. It was a pleasure to have Dhanashree Pandav as one of the singers for the meet who added the fun element to the meet. Dhanashree describes music as her passion and takes every opportunity to showcase her talent to the audience which gives her opportunity to refresh herself and make new friends.  Bageshree Iyer, who runs ‘PotPourri’ in Singapore which is a platform for thematic music concerts, was the other eminent singer at the meet who delighted the audience with her amazing voice. Shalima Motial, founder, CEO of Dream Catchers and Charu Mehrotra, founder Women Lines addressed about the importance of networking in present times.

Networking is not only collecting cards and approaching each other for business. It is about, connecting with a fellow entrepreneur, understanding each others problems, exchanging knowledge, finding out solutions, looking out for opportunities to grow and also have some fun together. Networking gives an opportunity to strive for excellence by motivating, sharing and caring for each other along the journey. Face-to-face networking definitely creates lasting impressions in the minds of people we meet. As entrepreneurs, we need motivation, connection, bonding, and support from people who have the same mindset.

Uplift- Network for Inspiration will be organizing networking meets 4 times a year. Please send request at  Uplift if you want to be part of this group. Take a break entrepreneurs and come out of the virtual world to build up real connections. Cheers to entrepreneurship!

International Youth Leadership and Innovation Forum (IYLIF 2017): Platform for enhancing Innovation and Leadership in young minds

“Young people are fitter to invent than to judge; fitter for execution than for counsel; and more fit for new projects than for settled business.” -Francis Bacon

International Youth Ambassadors and Industry experts at International Youth Leadership and Innovation Forum (IYLIF 2017) proved this quote in the true sense. Annual IYLIF conference brought together a global panel of experts, educators, parents and accomplished youth from all over the world. IYLIF was a conference for youth (10-17 years) from all around the world to speak, discuss and collaborate on topics like Bullying, Stress, Human Values and Effects of technology in present times. This event was organized by As Many Minds in Singapore on 2nd Sep at Lifelong Learning Institute. IYLIF 2017 was supported by Up your Game 2016 Personal Development Community. Sindu Sreebhavan, founder of As Many Minds strongly believes “Innovations happen when we create an environment to foster creativity, meaningful dialogues, diversity, and collaborations.” While addressing the  audience  Sindu shared her vision of IYLIF as a platform with the power to transform dead dry deserts of despair into green lands of innovation, leadership, and execution

The key highlights of the forum-

  • 22 International Youth Ambassadors (IYAs) participated in the forum from Singapore and around the world from countries like Japan, Malaysia, UAE, and India. These youth were picked from over 160 entries received from all around the world. These youth had to send a 2-min speech on a topic that is relevant to the youth. Boot camps were organized before the actual forum to empower IYAs with required skills for the forum.
  •  There were 3 Internationally renowned keynote speakers at the Forum-
  1. Manoj Vasudevan– World Champion of Public Speaking, next level readiness expert and the author of the International bestseller ‘Mastering Leadership the Mousetrap Way’. He shared his insightful speech on leadership. He shared the messages ‘You are never too small to be big’ and ‘Ownership is the habit that leads to leadership’.
  2. Fredrik Haren – Internationally acclaimed expert on creativity in business and speaker. He is the author of 9 books, including the Idea Book which was included in “The 100 Best Business Books of All Time”. He gave a groundbreaking talk on the topic ‘The value of thinking differently.’ Fredrik shared  “All we know we have to take two things and combine in a new way to deliver a new idea. The World is changing quickly and adults are not able to handle and are stuck. Power of youth is not to get stuck.”
  3. Avi Z LiranInternational expert in Positive Leadership and Culture Transformation, who emphasized the importance of mindfulness for Curiosity, Humor, and Kindness in present times

  •  Educators and Experts from different domains from Singapore, Japan, USA, UK, Vietnam, and India shared their knowledge and opinions in three-panel discussions at the forum. The first panel moderated by  Ruby Mathur,  a lecturer at NAFA,  was on the topic ‘Future of education and its significance.’ Educators Stephen Dexter, Robert Thorn,Thomas Brian Donnelly, and Roger Tan shared their views on the importance of future ready education systems in this panel. This was followed by speeches delivered by IYAs and laughter therapy session conducted by Santhanaram Jayaram who shared valuable tips to de-stress in everyday life. The second-panel discussion was on the topic ‘Technology, Values and the Gig Economy.‘ Panelists consisted of educator Nick Alchin, Director of Cherishma Consulting Mamta Mandal and Technologist Harpreet Atwalwho shared views on the importance of mindfulness in use of technology and how to carry on value system to next generation. Second panel was moderated by Karolina Gwinner  who is a Leadership Facilitator and a Speaker too.’The  new reality of youth life: Bullying, Abuse’ was the last panel discussion and panelists successfully discussed the undue pressure on the youth of the present generation. This esteemed panel consisted of Noor Mastura, Founder & President of Interfaith Youth Circle community, Vani Khare the Director at SanrakshanSanthanaram Jayaram Director of Inspired Life Academy, Vinti Mittal, Director at SACAC Counselling, and  Padma Sekhar Principal of Trio World School, Bangalore, India. IYLIF 2017 aims to create a global pool of youth change makers. The mentoring will continues even after the forum to guide IYAs to take action. Each of them will be mentored to reach out to at least 1000 other youth to spread messages, inspire action and make a difference.

At the end of the conference Programme Director Rahul Shah, who is a Communication Specialist in Singapore questioned the audience  “What if you get one chance to go back in your past. What will you do?”

And the obvious answer came “ We will work on our strengths.”

So why not let kids work on their strengths from an early stage in their life and for that platform like IYLIF can help them in the true sense.

With a flurry of requests from all over the world to hold the next forum in their cities, IYLIF is definitely soaring high towards its mission of creating a global pool of youth visionaries and change makers. Dazzling event by Indian Expat Ladies in Singapore-Dazzling Divas!

Dazzling Divas, was a fun-filled programme for ladies, organized with the motive of integrating the female immigrants, with the Singaporeans and to provide some fun and amusement to make them have a feel of their home country. Women from different walks of life, from different parts of Singapore, visited the event.

Dazzling Divas was an amazing effort by Indian expat ladies, who displayed their talents in various programmes in the event. The event was well supported by Sengkang Women Executive Committee (WEC) – a People’s Association Organization. Held at Sengkang Community Club, on 14th November 2009, Saturday, 7:00-1000 pm Dazzling Divas was an entertaining night for the female audience.

The organizing committee was chaired by Ms. Kamini Chaliki and was ably supported by Ms. Charu and Ms. Mrunal with guidance from Ms. Azeeza. Ms. Kamini took the initiative to organize the whole event with the support of Chairman Sengkang WEC.

dsc00903-1Dazzling Divas was successful in providing entertainment to the female audience. The theme for the month was “Colours of India”. The programme was started with the Mehendi and Rangoli competition. There was active participation and participants came out with very amazingly creative Rangoli and Mehndi Patterns. Ms. Arpita Karandikar was the winner for Mehendi competition and Ms. Saujanya was the winner for Rangoli competition. There were some sweet performances by kids on some Bollywood and Kollywood m numbers, which was well received by the audience. So many multifaceted women got a chance to showcase their talents by participating in this event. The interesting fact is that many participants never met each other personally before the event and interacted virtually through a social networking site. The evening unfolded with surprise in terms of comic caper Singapore version of Ramayana, enacted by some enterprising ladies from IIS theatre group, that kept everyone in splits. Also, a very well coordinated and in-sync National Integration Fashion Show was huge success with the audience due to elegant costumes, beautiful jewelry; Ms. Sunita Prashant was the choreographer for the fashion show. The main attraction of the show was the dazzling divas performance by lovely ladies who danced on hit bollywood like from Jab we met, Kajra re numbers from old generation to latest hit songs.

Ms Shakun Narang, from the audience said “Truly Dazzling Divas was a platform that gave women in Singapore a platform to showcase their inner elegance, beauty and substance they are made of. More than that, the event brought in a kind of bonhomie and togetherness that we all Indian women crave for in a home away from home.

The crowd of 150 ladies enjoyed the whole programme, tasty Indian food, participated actively in games and had fun time while dancing on hit Bollywood numbers. Ms Deepti Rawat, from the audience commented that “It was an evening with stunning performance of talented dancers, hilarious comedy skit, fashion show, games and lucky draw too. In 10 years of my married life this was my first party without my husband where I enjoyed a lot. I got a chance to learn catwalk, there, thanks to WEC.”

The show was sponsored by a go to website mysingapore.com.sg, which brings the latest happenings events related to art, culture, movies, restaurants, with a distinctly Indian point of view. Four Seasons Spa located at Midpoint Orchard road was the other sponsor for the event. Miss Nisha gifted valued vouchers for her beauty and tailoring services for the lucky draw winners.

The regular get-together for immigrants can really help in diminishing the line of difference between Singaporeans (existing & immigrants) so that they can mutually benefit each other by exchanging knowledge and having some amusement and regalement together.
