Q-How Naturopathy can help in control of stomach problems?

Today most people who walk into my clinic have some digestive symptoms – gas, bloating, burping, constipated/diarrhoea and acid reflux. They have lived with these symptoms for so long that they think they are fine, and those with acid reflux are on drugs like omeprazole, which long term is no good for you. Taking antibiotics for diarrhoea may be necessary if severe, but long term antibiotics too does cause damage.

T he digestive system is the site of approximately 60% of our immune system. It works hand in hand with the liver to drive an efficient system. if the digestive system doesnt work right, it is the start of symptoms and later disease. What our parents told us to eat slowly, chew the food, enjoy the food and not to talk or watch tv when eating makes much sense clinically. The first phase of digestion starts at the mouth, if you salivate enzymes are released, if you chew your food and take time, its easier for the stomach to digest smaller broken down foods rather than large chunks which are swallowed in a hurry – which prevents indigestion. As we grow older, we lack enzymes and may need to replenish with digestive aid to help digest our foods. In Ayurveda also, its said the  root of all diseases starts from the digestive system . We thus need to take care of it with tender loving care.
