Kundalini Yoga

Womenlines takes pleasure to share a guest post on Kundalini Yoga by Pamela Akasha Kaur who is a KRI Certified Kundalini Yoga Instructor in Singapore-

Kundalini Yoga, or the “yoga of awareness” was brought to the West in 1968 by Yogi Bhajan, the Master of Kundalini Yoga and White Tantric. Before this time Kundalini Yoga was practiced in India and Tibet but was a secret practice only passed down selectively and verbally from a master to a chosen disciple.

Through the practice of Kundalini Yoga and meditation, your glandular and nervous systems are stimulated, and your capacity for creative potential is heightened. You gain inner vitality to compensate for the adverse effects of stress so you can excel in life. Kundalini Yoga classes are a dynamic blend of postures, pranayama, mantra, music, and meditation, which teach you the art of relaxation, self-healing and elevation. There are practices (“kriyas”) that support the liver, balance the glandular system, strengthen the nervous system, expand lung capacity, stimulate the pituitary, increase the flexibility of the spine, increase your radiance, and much more. Each kriya has a different effect but still works on all levels of your being. Kundalini Yoga is for anyone – householders, people who need to cope with the daily challenges and stresses of holding jobs, raising families, and managing businesses.  Balancing body and mind enable you to experience the clarity and beauty of your soul. No previous experience in yoga is required for you to achieve results with your very first class. You can heal yourself no matter what mental and physical stage of life you are currently experiencing. By using classic Kundalini Yoga postures, breathwork, meditation, and chanting, you can transform from the inside out.

I did not know that I was looking for Kundalini Yoga. I knew that I was looking for a foundation for a life with meaning and purpose. I knew that service to others was a core value in my life, and I believed that each person can change the path of their own life. My path as a teacher is what I understand and hopefully allow people to have a similar experience of that. This connection with the divine and to be on the path is so much fulfilling.  Try to find that space inside of us. For me, it was that door opened and all the pieces came together.  I learned to surrender and connect to the divine feminine and to learn to become a vessel.  Once I accepted that all that has happened to me was for me to learn and grow. It took courage to acknowledge and accept that I am not the victim and have never been a victim but a powerful creator of all my experiences. Through willingness and courage to face directly what is/was unpleasant or painful, through this embrace, I realized that the dormant power can begin to emerge and flower. It is like taking the lid off and be free.

My yoga practice is a way for me to connect mind, body, and spirit and find inner peace. Through yoga, I experience a feeling of finding ’home’ – home meaning the place where I find is the essence of who I really am. The place from where I feel, what important and what isn’t. The place from where inspiration, ideas, passion, love, and answers arise. Yoga gives me tools to handle and embrace the experiences that life offers and gives me the courage to dare to go after my dreams. Influenced by my teachers, peers, environment and my travels I aim to bring a sense of empowerment to each of my classes through yoga, pranayama, meditation and sacred dance.

Meditation- Panacea for Ramifications of Modernism

“Meditation is defined as a practice in which an individual trains the mind or induces a mode of consciousness either to realize some benefit or as an end in itself!”

I came across this definition somewhere and I was perplexed.  I always wondered how come mind will have time to think to train itself for some relaxation. I have been working from home mother most of the time in my life.At times it’s really challenging for me to manage myself when inflicted with lots of emotions at the same time. As per friend’s suggestion, I thought of trying out meditation to balance myself.Cannot forget the first effort as I simply laughed at myself that how is it possible to sit for a minute also without thinking about anything. How can I even think about it?Our mind is always cluttered with thoughts and idea to make it thoughtless was not digestible to me. But still, I was curious that why it is getting so popular.I started trying and it took few years to have a feel of it.I am still not that good in meditating, but yes I have started having a feel of it.As I am growing, especially after becoming a mother I realize how important it meditates every day. In a way, it should be taken as a regular habit for us and we should not take it for granted. In fact, practice of meditation should be taught in schools so that present generation can become strong enough to face life adversities in future.

In the rat race of life, we almost forget how to live and get used to a robotic way of life. Every individual in a family is running towards his goals to achieve abundance and success. The happiness we want to seek by achieving the material goal is momentary only. Meditation helps us to realize who we are and where are we going, besides it also helps in relaxation. Our life is revolving around digital devices and in a way we have started living in virtual world.24/7 we are thinking about how to win this rat race as if we are going to miss something by not participating in it.Happiness cannot be quantified and we are only happy when we are growing in all aspects of life whether it is physical health, material life and also the most important aspect of our life that refers to spiritual health. As we have become too individualistic and consumer-obsessed it’s very important for us to be in real touch with our true self, and meditation helps us in this journey. The benefits of meditation include better health, higher creativity, and better personal relationships. Meditation helps us to reduce stress by guiding us to switch off from worries. Meditation is an opportunity to spend time with ourselves, and be comfortable with ourselves. Spending 15 minutes in quietening the mind and focusing on the present moment, makes us more relaxed and effective decision makers. In fact, researches have proved that mindfulness achieved by meditation helps us to increase a density of grey matter and thus making our brain more active.Finding from the other research proved that meditation helps in reducing heart diseases.

The healthy body helps in living life happily with passion. So why not try something which helps you to achieve a healthy body. Happy Meditation!

Benefits of Holistic Healing & Therapies

Womenlines  is proud to bring Holistic Healing and Therapies under Health Section.Ms Pratima Nagraj, who is a C.Ht(Clinical Hypnotherapist),Holistic Healer in Singapore, will be sharing about various therapies through which Major diseases can be cured.

Most of us these days are familiar with the term “Holistic” due to the growing popularity and need for holistic health. “Holistic” means the three aspects of the self – mind, body and spirit. It comes from the word “Whole” which means Complete. It’s a way of taking an all round approach to treat diseases or imbalances and choosing to lead a more balanced lifestyle. Holistic healing (or more popularly referred to as alternative medicine, Complementary medicine or Integrative medicine) is not an ‘alternative’ to medical care. These therapies are presented as options to conventional medical treatments. Seeking help from a medical professional should never be ignored. But what we fail to understand is that physical illnesses are the symptoms of a greater imbalance which may have a root cause in our thoughts & emotions. Some of the holistic therapies and treatments available are: • Aromatherapy • Hypnotherapy • Regression Therapies like Past Life Regression • Energy-healing methods such as Reiki, Pranic Healing • Acupuncture • Yoga • Meditation • Crystal Therapy • Affirmative healing • Chinese medicine and lots more!

One major belief common to all the above holistic therapies is that “WE” are ultimately responsible for our own health and issues and not our environment, friends, relatives, bosses, co-workers, circumstances and whatever it is that we choose to blame, in order to escape from owning responsibility. It is only when we take personal responsibility that we can truly begin to get healed. The first step begins here, even before you visit a holistic practitioner! Our childhood beliefs, cultural values and attitudes affect our mental and physical health and they are considered in the above techniques while finding the cure. As a holistic healer our role is to recognize that the discomforts or pains are just symptoms at the surface level whereas the imbalance may be due to the mental, emotional or spiritual needs not being met. No aspect is overlooked in this treatment. A complete evaluation is made and appropriate techniques are suggested to the client. Every person is unique; so no one treatment, medication or technique will be used. There is no one standard or one-size-fits-all approach. Each treatment is individualized.

It can be worthwhile in guiding your own self-appraisal by asking questions like “How can I strengthen my body to have a robust physical health?”, “Are my emotional relationships allowing me to grow in a healthy way” or “How are my activities helping in developing my inner spiritual self?” Choosing your holistic practitioner is like choosing your medical professional. You have to find a good fit! So make your choice today and bring in those positive changes in your life! –Pratima Nagaraj

Dalai Lama, Meditation, and its impact in today’s world!

Dalai Lama has always been a symbol of peace to me. His constant efforts for Tibet cause in its unique way has attracted worldwide attention. He is also known for his guidance and teachings worldwide and his books are very popular throughout the world.

Whenever I crossed Dalai Lama’s book section in Library I just felt that his books will talk about peace, love, integrity and maybe something about how to meditate, yoga etc. This was until I read one of his books-How to Expand Love.

Well, I will certainly not say that book is a best seller, or very superbly written. But the impression which It created in my mind that being a human being some thoughts which have to be present in every individual then why is it so those are prominent in few persons around the world like his holiness.  In this book, he has described seven step self-help program to help us open our heart and mind. Some of the snippets are-

It is important to aspire to bring about the well being of others and to develop that aspiration so that it becomes stronger and stronger.

When you generate a reasoned desire for the happiness of others your humanness increases.

May the suffering which I am undergoing now function as the ripening, manifestation, and conclusion of many bad karmas that I have accumulated.

He say that think about the happiness of others. This will give you amazing happiness. Just imagine the person fulfilling all his dreams and you will be full of love and happiness for him.

Though I must say that all his teachings are tough to follow. You really have to be a saint to follow his preachings. When you lead a normal life going through all your roles, dealing with the worldly duties, experiencing all types of emotions throughout the day then its really challenging to keep your inner voice audible. It needs lots of meditation and practise. Though not impossible still a challenge in itself.

In today’s scenario its necessary to go across such thoughts as it takes you to a different spiritual world from this materialistic world and you are introduced to real yourself!
