It is pleasure to share Womenlines Entrepreneur of the Month, Sneha Yadav’s journey, in her own words at Womenlines.”Dance isn’t a form, it’s a way of my life.” says Dance enthusiast Sneha Yadav. Sneha is the founder of Dancing Feet Masti Se Seekho, a Dance Academy in Singapore which specializes in teaching semi-classical to modern Latin, Hip-hop, folk dances etc. to kids and adults too. Dancing Feet Masti Se Seekho will be completing 8 years next year in Singapore.
1). Please share with our readers a little bit about yourself?
To me, dance is more of a feeling. Even the way you walk is a dance. It’s the idea that Actions speak louder than the words, and that idea became my life and now my profession. My dance experience originated from Indian folk and Bollywood dancing, which I started when I was five years old. I then moved on to different styles like Jazz, Bharatnatyam, Hip-hop, Belly, Latin. So currently I am teaching the combo of all mix into the Bollywood.
2). So when you started this venture and what inspired or motivated you to take a plunge into this venture?
In India, things were different than Singapore in terms of dancing and trying new things especially with hobbies. The dance was the last thing on my mind when I was working as a page 3 journalist back in India. I always loved dancing but as a career, it was not something I planned for. After marriage I moved to Singapore, I was completely bored with free and easy life. I decided to learn few dance forms, started with Bharatnatyam, Belly and Latin Dancing, that’s where I decided to convert my passion into the profession.
And I started dance classes in 2008 with one student, who was a 4-year-old kid. I love what I do and I would not trade it for anything else in the world. It’s the most gratifying experience to see students come to my classes who have never danced in their life.
3). Can you share with us some of the challenges you faced during your initial days?
Honestly speaking being a journalist back in India was very challenging, but being a choreographer is actually full of fun. To me, dancing is an activity which I enjoy myself, and I make sure that my students also enjoy the dance at its best. Started by one student, I never looked back, the entire reach out was by word of mouth and I had students in surplus. Now the number is only increasing. I always teach my students not to use common dance steps and be creative. This is how one can create unique styles of dancing. To develop those unique steps is the only challenge.
4). So how do you balance your personal and professional life?
I try my best to give my 100 percent to both. If it’s needed, then I am totally for the profession, I never say NO to people and that’s the reason why people believe me and they think I can help them out in an emergency situation. My dance classes are mostly on mornings and evenings, so balancing between personal and professional life is not that tough, it’s all about priorities.
5). What would you suggest to other aspiring women who want to venture out on their
Ask from yourself that what is the things you like and enjoy most, you will find few things, segregate one out of all and just go ahead, don’t look back, face challenges and you will definitely get the success in life and your venture.
6). Is there any person who has mentored/ supported/inspired you?
Definitely the friends and family is a big support. The world is so big, every day some or other person keeps us inspired. Actually, my husband helped me a lot in knowing about my interest and encouraged me to learn more dance styles. And he never stops me doing the things which I want to do.
I am so lucky to have friends and family around me, who always encourage and keep giving me new ideas for the Dancing Feet Masti Se Seekho, they are my critics too, which help me in keeping my pace.
7). What do you have in the pipeline for your company’s future development?
I am already teaching many dance forms like Indian folks, semi-classical, Jazz Bollywood, Belly, Latin etc and going to add few more dance forms soon in future. And my students will be performing in more beautiful and attractive costumes.
Dancing Feet Masti Se Seekho believes that through the fun way, it’s very easy to learn dance. They teach in community centers, in schools, in weddings, and for corporate events too. Age is just the number they believe, youngest student at the academy is 2 and half years old and she is having great dance learning time from Sneha. And the oldest student is 65 years old, who never danced in her whole life, she is also dancing very well after few classes.
So if 2 and half years old and 65 years old can catch the dance steps, then everyone can learn dance. It’s all about practice.
Dancing Feet Masti Se Seekho is providing dance costumes and props too for the dance events.
Womenlines wishes all the best to Sneha for her bright future. Visit this link to know more about Dancing Feet Masti Se Seekho-
