Womenlines presents a talk show ‘Let’s erase Domestic Violence’.This talk show aims to share various ways to prevent domestic violence from our society across the globe. In this episode, Archana Mittal, a Therapist/Counsellor/Social Worker from India is sharing about her petition to Introduce Women’s Rights as a Subject in School to Erase Domestic Violence Sign the Petition! http://chng.it/wSv524XL!

Let’s support Archana in getting the initiative of introducing ‘Women’s Rights’ as a subject in Schools. In her words-

Violence against women occurs throughout her life – from before she is born, infancy, childhood, adolescence, and till adulthood. Most of the data are believed to be unreliable as many cases go unreported.
Legislative changes by itself would not suffice because violence against women is a deep-rooted social problem. Lack of awareness, not knowing her rights, and the fear of getting hurt often prevent women from taking any action. Starting at the ground level, gender sensitisation by parents and teachers is needed to sensitise children. Building a strong foundation and learning about their rights early on in life will help recognise and avoid domestic violence from a very young age. 1 in 3 women and 1 in 7 men experience domestic violence by the time they are adults. I want these statistics to be a thing of the past. By providing education in schools about topics related to domestic violence, schools can help prevent incidents and create a culture where domestic violence is no longer such common behaviour in our society. That is why I am addressing this petition to the Ministry of Education and Women and Child Welfare, asking them to introduce women’s rights as a subject in schools, to help address concepts from an early age, and erase domestic violence. There is a need for both men and women to understand this problem, and work together to eradicate it. Sign my petition.
It’s time we Educate To Erase!

The importance of creating a safe space for mental wellness conversation between therapists and individuals has increased tremendously amidst the chaos caused by the COVID-19 pandemic! Healthy Mind Online, a portal to support the mental well-being of people has come up with such a safe space virtually. Womenlines is delighted to share about this safe space in the words of the Managing Director of Healthy Mind Online Geeta Dayal in the interview at ‘Entrepreneur/Professional of the Month’ Show above-

Geeta Dayal is the Managing Director of Healthy Mind Online (HMO), a Singapore company and an online portal to support the mental well-being of people. HMO has worked with the Institute of Mental Health, Agency of Integrated Care (MOH), and MHC Asia Group in Singapore to fine-tune their online program. Their MyResilience Program has a holistic approach towards mental wellness. HMO recently opened its office in India and is working with a couple of clients, with more in the pipeline. Geeta grew up in a small town in India and loved school and university. Her first job was as a lecturer at Delhi University. She relocated to Singapore 20 years back and became a full-time mom to her daughter.

A desire to venture into the tech startup world and the firm belief that mental health has not been given enough attention by the medical world led to the creation of HealthyMindOnline – an ANONYMOUS digital portal all about mental well-being.

HealthyMindOnline (HMO) wanted to talk about mental well-being, fight the stigma attached to it, and start conversations about this. Mental well-being cannot happen in isolation from physical well-being. And being physically fit alone will not allow you to reach your full potential if you’re not mentally and emotionally resilient.  This has surfaced recently in the Olympic Games and the unfortunate incident in a school right here in our country.

Most importantly, HMO wanted to have in place a system where anybody feeling the need for understanding and assistance felt they had a safe space to be heard, or understood without judgement.

HMO’s approach is holistic:  they look at awareness, assessment, and intervention

Awareness:

You can go to the resources page on the website to increase general awareness by reading articles and blog entries about health – both physical and mental.

Assessment :

You can take the Resilience Quiz to get an idea about how resilient you are – that is how well you can bounce back from setbacks.  The questions pertain to both physical and mental wellness.

Intervention:

You can take the 4-week program

HMO also offers a regular video consult session, but they find higher uptake for the anonymous 4-week program.

So if you are feeling stressed, lonely, overworked, or relationships are causing heartache, or there is anxiety or sadness, talking to a qualified person helps to overcome such issues, become more resilient and learn how to cope in the future. Nobody should feel that they have no place to be heard, no place they feel safe sharing. Nobody should feel that they are alone, or there is no way out. Everybody deserves to live their lives to their full potential. Everybody deserves to be their best self.

COVID-19 has made people more acutely aware of the importance of mental wellness and also made them more open to getting support online, but HMO was working on this before that.

The App for HMOs will be available on the App Stores soon.

INSTRUCTIONS

NOTES

These Mexican Buddha bowls can be stored in airtight containers in the fridge for up to 4 days. They are not suitable for freezing. However, the beans and fajita vegetables can be frozen separately, then defrosted and reheated in a pan or the microwave until piping hot through. If you want to meal prep and eat your Mexican quinoa bowl hot, I would suggest keeping the salsa, lettuce, and avocado separate from the other components. Heat the beans and corn, quinoa, and vegetables in the microwave for a couple of minutes, then add them to the cold items.

How to use the power of your voice to brand yourself at Clubhouse? Guest contributor at Womenlines, Hedieh Safiyari, Founder & CEO of PromptHealth has shared interesting tips in her article below-

Being able to use our voice is a privilege many of us take for granted. In order to ignite change, we must be willing to take opportunities where we can speak our minds and deliver a message that matters. Our voice and how we use it determines who we are, and ultimately what our brand is and what difference we make in the world. Conveying your message to the world with your unique voice in an authentic way allows you to find and connect with an audience that resonates with your mission.

Getting started with this is not always easy. You need to have a clear understanding of what it is you want to convey, and then need to find a way to reach people who will listen and connect with your values. This can be difficult as those who are receptive to our ideas aren’t always who we expect. You must be willing to be patient and open-minded to the idea that your audience will find you in time, but it might not always be in the way you expect. The important part about figuring out what you want to convey is that if you are truly passionate, it will come to you naturally. This is immensely important and will be crucial to your success. The fact is, your passion will be evident in your message, which will help others understand the change you want to make and inspire them to join you.

Nowadays, there are so many different channels to advocate for your message – blogging, video, podcasts, and social media as a few examples. Recently, a mobile app called Clubhouse has disrupted the way we interact and converse with others online. Creators of the platform understood how impactful the power of voice can be and leveraged this to create a voice-only app where culturally diverse individuals have the opportunity to share their thoughts in real-time and connect with like-minded people. When you enter the app, you can browse through different rooms and go in and out of them as you please. Once you choose a room you can stop to just listen, raise your hand to speak, or even create rooms yourself to be the speaker and moderator of the room.

The clubhouse has been a gamechanger for networking and allows users to tap into niche community circles that they otherwise may not have found through traditional social media platforms. If you are a leader and a creator, Clubhouse is a great tool to help amplify your voice. Personally, I have resonated with hundreds of people and have expanded my own community in health and wellness by connecting with like-minded, inspiring individuals who I have also learnt from during my time at Clubhouse. Each experience with Clubhouse has felt like I am taking part in a communal meeting with brilliant individuals who share a common ground: sharing knowledge about topics they are deeply passionate about. It is something that I not only enjoy but gain immense value from whether I am learning, educating, supporting, or just simply conversing and listening. This is just one example of how your voice can inspire others. If you are motivated to make an impact, it is important to leverage tools available for you so that people can hear you. Be the voice for change, one that inspires someone younger and uplifts someone older.

The first step is always the hardest, but once you find your community you will be glad you started. You have the power, it is within you and waiting to get out. Get out there and get heard!

Happy Birthday, Singapore! May God bless Singapore with an abundance of prosperity, peace and success!

What Makes Singapore so Unique?

Being Extreme Clean

Singapore is quite famous for having some of the cleanest roads in the world. This is due to a 50,000-strong cleaning workforce employed to keep the streets neat. Singapore is also famous for its strict laws on littering, spitting on the streets, vandalism and public urination. If people are guilty of conducting such offence that can result in heavy fines and/or a punishment called Corrective Work Order, where offenders are required to pick up litter in public wearing a bright vest.

Fines and corporal punishment

Singapore is quite known for its fitness. Tourist t-shirts often call Singapore a ‘fine city’ . This has happened because of a number of laws and regulations that can result in a very heavy fine if flouted, these can range from smoking in no-smoking areas, jaywalking or even eating and drinking on the MRT. More serious infractions like robbery, vandalism or drug trafficking in Singapore can result in jail sentences, but also corporal punishment like caning or even a death sentence.

Lee Kuan Yew

If there is one Singaporean who people around the world can name, chances are that it is Singapore’s first prime minister Lee Kuan Yew. Often regarded as the founding father of independent Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew was known for his frankness and hard edge and was the driving force behind instituting some of the famous things Singapore is known for listed in this article, like the garden city and strict laws. His passing in 2015 was a day of national mourning for the country, and his son Lee Hsien Loong is currently Singapore’s third prime minister.

Singapore opened world’s first night zoo

Singapore’s Night Safari provides a nocturnal experience like no other in the city; it’s also the world’s very first night zoo. Opened in 1994, the 35-hectare park features over 1,000 animals in their naturalistic night-time environments. You can Hop onto the 40-minute tram ride for an overview of the park’s main attractions. Be sure to amble along the four interlinked walking trails within the park, for a zoo trip like no other.

Happy Birthday, Singapore! May God bless with more uniqueness and more happiness to all residents of the country!
