Life is beautiful and it has to be lived beautifully with the ultimate aim to achieve excellence and success in life!

I have strong belief that  God has sent us to earth with perfect ingredients within us which can help us to lead a successful life. It is upon us how we use these ingredients within us. Simon Sinek, the famous author, speaker, and marketing consultant, is sharing amazing insights about the science behind success in this talk.

My five takeaways-

“It is all about feelings. If we are happy, fulfilled, it is by 4 chemicals’-
Endorphins, Dopamine, Serotonin, Oxytocin.”

1. ENDORPHINS:

Endorphins are feel-good hormones. It actually reduces the feeling of pain.  It helps in keep going during workouts and helps to face difficulties. If you are in sudden need of endorphins then laughter can be the good source which can easily induce endorphin release. Sources which can release laughter can be reading funny email, watching a comedy show or just remembering some funny moments in life. So always look out for natural ways of inducing endorphins.

2. DOPAMINE :
“Motivates to achieve incremental goals. Rewards motivated behavior. Kind of like the “greed” function of the brain. Makes feel good when you check things off the “to do list” or get through project milestones. Highly addictive.”
“As dopamine is highly addictive you have to be mindful what is triggering dopamine within you. When they give numbers in banks to achieve and it gives dopamine they will keep doing. Dopamine is dangerous if unbalanced.”
The key message is to choose your source of dopamine mindfully.

3. SEROTONIN:

“Serotonin is leadership chemical. Public recognition gives serotonin. With serotonin, confidence goes up. When you take your diploma…parents get serotonin. Serotonin tries to strengthen the relationship, it raises your status, confidence. You can trick serotonin. Conspicuous display of materialistic things show makes you feel good and thus by wearing branded stuff you trick your system. It provides the feeling of significance, pride, status. It drives you to seek the recognition of others. It reinforces the sense of relationships with the group, allegiance.”  Simon Sinek calls this the Leadership chemical and what creates a sense of allegiance and organizational cohesion.
It is said that most antidepressants focus on the production of serotonin. Gratitude helps in getting serotonin and also reflecting on our past victories. So why not we depend upon natural ways of enhancing serotonin instead of getting dependent on antidepressants.

4. OXYTOCIN:

Oxytocin gives the feeling of love. Through the act of human generosity, giving your time and energy and nothing expecting in return doing nice things for people, witnessing an act of generosity can also help you feel good. If you have lots of oxytocin you will never get addicted. It makes you healthy and your immune system increases. Also known as cuddle hormone, it enhances when you cuddle, handshake or receives a gift. WORK TOWARDS GETTING MORE OXYTOCIN IF YOU WANT TO GET HEALTHY.

5. CORTISOL:

“Cortisol is feeling of stress and anxiety. Cortisol is designed to keep you alive. It increases heart rate. When you get paranoid. it shuts off your immune system. It should be in and gone. Everyday cortisol collection inhibits oxytocin. You are less empathetic and less generous. Parents who come home stressed out are short-tempered and angry. This creates a negative impact on kids which  leads them to become bullies.”
The message here is that, don’t let cortisol overpower you.

When the news is about Guinness book of the world record and that too for such an important cause which requires immediate attention around the world- Child Abuse, there should be a shout out!!

The record was created by conducting the largest child safeguarding session which empowered 1297 children to stay protected against sexual abuse and learn about their legal rights by Faith Foundation Trust in India along with V-force media.

The event was held on 18th of Nov 2017. The training session was conducted by Bangalore based social change organization Faith Foundation, which is championing the cause of protection of children against sexual abuse from past 5 years in the city. The whole event was conducted in the presence of the home minister of Karnataka, MLA Harris, MLA Vijay Kumar and other dignitaries who were equally concerned towards the cause. The event was also supported by Breathe entertainment.

The Faith foundation belongs to Dr. Vani Khare who is a resident of Singapore and is also doing similar work in other parts of south-east Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia and Indonesia) through her social enterprise Sanrakshan Pte Ltd registered in Singapore. She is a scientist by education (IISC Bangalore, Ph.D. in molecular biology from USM Penang, Malaysia), writer and humanitarian worker by choice. She is Founder director of social change organization Sanrakshan Pte Ltd Singapore.Vani’s passion took her to work towards social entrepreneurship. The prime focus of her work is eliminating the trauma of sexual abuse and violence inflicted on vulnerable women and children.

Guinness book of world record specially approved Dr. Vani Khare’s profile to conduct this session with 1500 children from various schools in India. She led the session along with her co-trainers Manju Goel and Harish Bhuvan. It only took 1 attempt to create the record with 1297 children. While 3 Trainers were leading the training on the stage, other Trainers, Barnali Sudhanshu, Gaurav Harish, Tejeshwari Harish, and Divya Bhushan were leading the session on the ground between the children as a synchronized activity. The aim of the session was to directly empower children and make the empowerment reach to as many children as possible. In the end, children need to learn about protecting themselves. They must take their protection in their own hand.

According to Dr. Vani “Every country has its own challenges when it comes to enforcing the law and providing protection to children but that should not stop us to face these challenges together as each stakeholder – Govt, police, parents, schools, media, and social organizations.” She has been working with various countries and governments towards burning issues like child abuse, domestic violence and trafficking (Rohingya) in Singapore, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Indonesia. And she would like to bring the experiences she has gathered back to India in order to deal with the issue of childhood abuse.

It is pleasure to share Womenlines Entrepreneur of the Month, Sneha Yadav’s journey, in her own words at Womenlines.”Dance isn’t a form, it’s a way of my life.” says Dance enthusiast Sneha Yadav. Sneha is the founder of Dancing Feet Masti Se Seekho, a Dance Academy in Singapore which specializes in teaching semi-classical to modern Latin, Hip-hop, folk dances etc. to kids and adults too. Dancing Feet Masti Se Seekho will be completing 8 years next year in Singapore.

1). Please share with our readers a little bit about yourself?

To me, dance is more of a feeling. Even the way you walk is a dance. It’s the idea that Actions speak louder than the words, and that idea became my life and now my profession. My dance experience originated from Indian folk and Bollywood dancing, which I started when I was five years old. I then moved on to different styles like Jazz, Bharatnatyam, Hip-hop, Belly, Latin. So currently I am teaching the combo of all mix into the Bollywood.

2). So when you started this venture and what inspired or motivated you to take a plunge into this venture?

In India, things were different than Singapore in terms of dancing and trying new things especially with hobbies. The dance was the last thing on my mind when I was working as a page 3 journalist back in India. I always loved dancing but as a career, it was not something I planned for. After marriage I moved to Singapore, I was completely bored with free and easy life. I decided to learn few dance forms, started with Bharatnatyam, Belly and Latin Dancing, that’s where I decided to convert my passion into the profession.

And I started dance classes in 2008 with one student, who was a 4-year-old kid. I love what I do and I would not trade it for anything else in the world. It’s the most gratifying experience to see students come to my classes who have never danced in their life.

3). Can you share with us some of the challenges you faced during your initial days?

Honestly speaking being a journalist back in India was very challenging, but being a choreographer is actually full of fun. To me, dancing is an activity which I enjoy myself, and I make sure that my students also enjoy the dance at its best. Started by one student, I never looked back, the entire reach out was by word of mouth and I had students in surplus. Now the number is only increasing. I always teach my students not to use common dance steps and be creative. This is how one can create unique styles of dancing. To develop those unique steps is the only challenge.

4). So how do you balance your personal and professional life?

I try my best to give my 100 percent to both. If it’s needed, then I am totally for the profession, I never say NO to people and that’s the reason why people believe me and they think I can help them out in an emergency situation. My dance classes are mostly on mornings and evenings, so balancing between personal and professional life is not that tough, it’s all about priorities.

5). What would you suggest to other aspiring women who want to venture out on their own?

Ask from yourself that what is the things you like and enjoy most, you will find few things, segregate one out of all and just go ahead, don’t look back, face challenges and you will definitely get the success in life and your venture.

6). Is there any person who has mentored/ supported/inspired you?

Definitely the friends and family is a big support. The world is so big, every day some or other person keeps us inspired. Actually, my husband helped me a lot in knowing about my interest and encouraged me to learn more dance styles. And he never stops me doing the things which I want to do.

I am so lucky to have friends and family around me, who always encourage and keep giving me new ideas for the Dancing Feet Masti Se Seekho, they are my critics too, which help me in keeping my pace.

7). What do you have in the pipeline for your company’s future development?

I am already teaching many dance forms like Indian folks, semi-classical, Jazz Bollywood, Belly, Latin etc and going to add few more dance forms soon in future. And my students will be performing in more beautiful and attractive costumes.

Dancing Feet Masti Se Seekho believes that through the fun way, it’s very easy to learn dance. They teach in community centers, in schools, in weddings, and for corporate events too. Age is just the number they believe, youngest student at the academy is 2 and half years old and she is having great dance learning time from Sneha. And the oldest student is 65 years old, who never danced in her whole life, she is also dancing very well after few classes.
So if 2 and half years old and 65 years old can catch the dance steps, then everyone can learn dance. It’s all about practice.
Dancing Feet Masti Se Seekho is providing dance costumes and props too for the dance events.

Womenlines wishes all the best to Sneha for her bright future. Visit this link to know more about Dancing Feet Masti Se Seekho-

Dr’s Secret Cleanser is a wonderful product which helps in maintaining the smoothness of skin. The gentle gel delivers soothing and moisturizing effects on skin and also reverses free-radical damage.

I was impressed with the ingredients namely Aloe Vera, Jojoba Extracts, Slippery Elm and Vit C. All 3 ingredients are amazing for good skin. Here are the benefits-

Benefits of Aloe vera

Aloe vera gel contains two hormones: Auxin and Gibberellins. These two hormones provide wound healing and anti-inflammatory properties that reduce skin inflammation. Additionally, in Ayurvedic medicine, Aloe is used to effectively heal chronic skin problems, such as psoriasis, acne, and eczema.

Benefits of Jojoba

Long-lasting moisture: Studies have documented that jojoba improves the feel of skin, and provides a substantial long-acting, 24-hour skin hydration effect. Nutritious: Jojoba contains nutrients like vitamin E and B, as well as minerals like chromium, copper, and zinc, which all nourish and protect skin from environmental stressors. Gentle: Jojoba is recommended for people with sensitive skin because of its gentle nature. Applying jojoba to the compromised skin can help keep it moist. Anti-agingBecause it is the perfect moisturizer, jojoba can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Slippery elm

The powdered internal bark of the slippery elm plant can be mixed with water to make mucilage, which is slippery and soft and usually used to make skin smooth and beautiful. Slippery Elm is popular with the following medicinal properties – demulcent, expectorant, emollient, astringent, anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory. The herbal extract derived from Slippery Elm is also rich in Vitamin E.

Books are best friends and it is such a true saying!

Friends give you company, you have fun with them, and they make you mindful of things which you are not paying attention.Same goes for books. It is fun reading books, books give you company and certain books alert you to certain aspects of life which might be getting ignored by you. ‘Thrive’ by  Arianna Huffington is one of those books which can awaken the sleeping humane element within you. My best takeaways from reading this book-

  1. ” Being connected in a shallow way to the entire world can prevent us from deeply connected to those who are closely connected to us- including ourselves. And that is where wisdom is found”
  2. “Question is how quickly can we get back to that centred place of wisdom, harmony, and strength. It’s in this sacred place that life is transformed from a struggle to grace”
  3. “Technology allows us to be so hyperconnected with the outside world that we can lose connection to our inner world.”
  4. Mindfulness, yoga, prayer meditation, and contemplation aren’t just tools reserved for retreats over long weekend anymore, they are the ultimate performance enhancers.”
  5. “Countless things in our daily lives can awaken the almost constant state of wonder we knew as children. But sometimes to see them we must look through a different set of eyes. The triggers are there. But are we present enough to experience them.”

Health is the real wealth and to manage this wealth Naturopathy can play important role in our life. Lady of the house is considered the pillar of a family and to make her family healthy she herself has to be healthy and happy. To help womenfolk to achieve excellence in health Women Lines is committed to creating awareness. It is such a pleasure to have  Saravanan Naturopathic Physician as an Influencer for Naturopathy on Womenlines panel. This month Dr. Saravanan Naturopath is shaing information regarding Probiotics-

Microbial cultures have been used for centuries to ferment food and alcohol. In the 1900s many scientific research and observations were done on these cultures and they were recognized that they can prevent and may even cure some diseases. These microbial cultures were then named probiotics or “pro-life”. (Antibiotics means “against-life”)

Dairy products like milk and yogurt contain probiotics. The most frequently used bacteria in these products include the Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus species.

Nutritional Benefits

 Intestinal Tract Health

A large number of studies indicate that probiotics are useful in the treatment of diarrhea, including diarrhea induced by antibiotics in adults. It helps with diarrhea during travels and diarrhea due to rotaviruses in children.

Diarrhea is the major cause of infant death and it is very debilitating thus Lactobacillus GG, L. casei, B. bifidum and S. thermophilus have been researched extensively. The widespread availability of probiotics will help prevent these diseases. Probiotic bacteria have also proven to help to maintain gut integrity and mediate the effects of inflammatory bowel diseases, irritable bowel syndrome, colitis, and alcoholic liver disease[iv]. Probiotics may help improve intestinal mobility and relieve constipation in the elderly. Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. lactis produced a bacteriocin named UO004. the finding suggest that the bacteriocin may resist to the acidic conditions of fermented milk and of the stomach and small intestine as well as to more neutral conditions like in large intestine.

Better Absorption of Nutrients from Food.

Probiotics may aid in the improved digestibility of some dietary nutrients like protein and fat. Short-chain fatty acids such as lactic acid, propionic acid and butyric acid produced by probiotics may help maintain a balanced pH and protect against pathological changes in the colonic mucosa.

Improved Immune Response.

In vitro studies conducted on animals and humans indicate that probiotics can improve specific and nonspecific immune responses. This is possible through active macrophages, increased levels of cytokines, increased natural killer cell activity and increased levels of immunoglobulin when probiotics are consumed.

Manage Lactose Intolerances

Studies also show that strains of probiotic flora, like S. thermophilus, L. bulgaricus and other lactobacilli in fermented milk products, can alleviate symptoms of lactose intolerance by providing bacterial lactase to the intestine and stomach. Many people suffer from lactose intolerance, thus consuming these probiotics may aid in the digestion of dairy and dairy products.

Manage Allergies

Probiotics may be beneficial in the prevention of allergic reaction by improving mucosal barrier function. Children benefit as their immune responses are increased. Probiotics such as Lactobacillus GG may be helpful in alleviating some of the symptoms of food allergies associated with milk protein. A Finnish study indicated that consuming probiotics helped overcome respiratory illness in children.

Cancer Management

In vitro and animal studies show that probiotics may reduce colon cancer risk by reducing the occurrence and number of tumors. Lactobacillus species and Eubacterium aerofaciens, both producers of lactic acid, were associated with the populations with the lower risk of colon cancer, while Bacteroides and Bifidobacterium species were associated with higher risk of colon cancer. Another study showed a reduced incidence of relapse in bladder cancer patients.

How long do we take probiotics for?

Probiotics do not remain in the intestine permanently. They are effective when they are metabolized and grown during intestinal colonization. Therefore daily consumption of probiotics is the best way to attain maximum health benefits.

When is the best time and how much to consume of the probiotics?

If you are healthy, it is recommended that you take your probiotics first thing in the morning of the recommended dosage. Speak to our naturopath if you have any specific health challenge as dosage and frequency may vary.

Commercially used probiotic species.

Lactobacillus species – L. acidophilus, L. casei, L. fermentum, L. gasseri, L. johnsonii, L. lactis, L. paracasei, L. plantarum, L. reuteri, L. rhamnosus, L. salivarius,

Bifidobacterium species B. bifidum, B. breve, B. lactis, B. longum,

 Streptococcus species – S. thermophilus

Womenlines takes pleasure to share a guest post on Kundalini Yoga by Pamela Akasha Kaur who is a KRI Certified Kundalini Yoga Instructor in Singapore-

Kundalini Yoga, or the “yoga of awareness” was brought to the West in 1968 by Yogi Bhajan, the Master of Kundalini Yoga and White Tantric. Before this time Kundalini Yoga was practiced in India and Tibet but was a secret practice only passed down selectively and verbally from a master to a chosen disciple.

Through the practice of Kundalini Yoga and meditation, your glandular and nervous systems are stimulated, and your capacity for creative potential is heightened. You gain inner vitality to compensate for the adverse effects of stress so you can excel in life. Kundalini Yoga classes are a dynamic blend of postures, pranayama, mantra, music, and meditation, which teach you the art of relaxation, self-healing and elevation. There are practices (“kriyas”) that support the liver, balance the glandular system, strengthen the nervous system, expand lung capacity, stimulate the pituitary, increase the flexibility of the spine, increase your radiance, and much more. Each kriya has a different effect but still works on all levels of your being. Kundalini Yoga is for anyone – householders, people who need to cope with the daily challenges and stresses of holding jobs, raising families, and managing businesses.  Balancing body and mind enable you to experience the clarity and beauty of your soul. No previous experience in yoga is required for you to achieve results with your very first class. You can heal yourself no matter what mental and physical stage of life you are currently experiencing. By using classic Kundalini Yoga postures, breathwork, meditation, and chanting, you can transform from the inside out.

I did not know that I was looking for Kundalini Yoga. I knew that I was looking for a foundation for a life with meaning and purpose. I knew that service to others was a core value in my life, and I believed that each person can change the path of their own life. My path as a teacher is what I understand and hopefully allow people to have a similar experience of that. This connection with the divine and to be on the path is so much fulfilling.  Try to find that space inside of us. For me, it was that door opened and all the pieces came together.  I learned to surrender and connect to the divine feminine and to learn to become a vessel.  Once I accepted that all that has happened to me was for me to learn and grow. It took courage to acknowledge and accept that I am not the victim and have never been a victim but a powerful creator of all my experiences. Through willingness and courage to face directly what is/was unpleasant or painful, through this embrace, I realized that the dormant power can begin to emerge and flower. It is like taking the lid off and be free.

My yoga practice is a way for me to connect mind, body, and spirit and find inner peace. Through yoga, I experience a feeling of finding ’home’ – home meaning the place where I find is the essence of who I really am. The place from where I feel, what important and what isn’t. The place from where inspiration, ideas, passion, love, and answers arise. Yoga gives me tools to handle and embrace the experiences that life offers and gives me the courage to dare to go after my dreams. Influenced by my teachers, peers, environment and my travels I aim to bring a sense of empowerment to each of my classes through yoga, pranayama, meditation and sacred dance.

Womenlines takes pleasure to welcome Dr. Rupali Gondhalekar from OmVedic Heritage Centre as a guest writer in Women Lines panel. In this write up she is sharing about how Ayurveda can help to reduce obesity-

Obesity is one of the most common lifestyle disorders. It causes physical ailments and many psychological disorders as well. In the management of obesity, Ayurveda gives utmost importance to Lifestyle and Diet changes with ayurvedic medicines and a combination of Panchkarma treatment (Udwartanam, Abhyanga, Swedana) that helps to tackle this problem very effectively.

Obesity is defined as an excess of body fat. In Ayurveda, it is called as “Medoroga” or “Sthoulya” which is caused by the aggravation of kapha dosha.

Body is made of 7 body tissues (Dhatus )- They are Rasa (Lymph), Rakta(Blood), Maans (Muscle), Meda( Fat), Asthi (Bones), Majja (Nervous System) Shukra (Reproductive System).
Meda Dhatu is governed by kapha dosha. When Meda gets excessively nourished and other Dhatus get malnourished. Kapha dosha increases in an abnormal fashion, Fat metabolism gets hampered and the person becomes obese.
In a balanced state, kapha dosha gives nourishment to Meda Dhatu.(Fat tissue). However, when it is aggravated, Kapha leads to the production of toxins in the body. These toxins are heavy and dense in nature and accumulate in Medovaha Srotas (fat channels), causing their blockage. This leads to an increase in the production of fat tissue (Meda Dhatu). When the body produces more fat tissues, it causes an increase in weight.

We all know how obesity is measured by BMI and waist-hip ratio. But Here are some very simple signs of obesity explained in ayurvedic texts.

Networking gives an opportunity to strive for excellence by motivating, sharing and caring for each other along the journey. Face-to-face networking definitely creates lasting impressions in the minds of people we meet.
