Cryptocurrency Unlocking the Future:

Understanding crypto terms is crucial to be able to get a grip on what’s happening in the cryptocurrency world. I will explain the terms blockchain, Bitcoin, altcoin, hash rate, node, crypto wallet, private key, public key, and fiat currency.

The very first word is Blockchain, which comes to our ears every day.

1. Blockchain is a chain of blocks containing specific data (database), but in a secure and authentic way together in a network (peer-to-peer). In other words, blockchain is a combination of computers(nodes) linked to each other instead of a central server, meaning that the whole network is decentralized. This is how blockchain works, no centralised data, all the computers in the system validate the information at every step. This is how we normally work, there is always a central computer which distributes the data.
2. Node: A computer or device that participates in the operation of a blockchain network by maintaining a copy of the blockchain and validating transactions.
3. Bitcoin (BTC):THE WORD! At first I thought BTC was what we call blockchain, I was referring everything to BTC and could not get a grasp of it.

   BTC is the first and most well-known cryptocurrency, created by an anonymous person or group of people using the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto. To specify here, BTC is only a coin virtually which holds a monetary value, just like we have the coin Ethereum(ETH), and SOLANA(SOL).

   Altcoin is any cryptocurrency other than Bitcoin. Examples include Ethereum, Ripple, Litecoin, and many others.

   These are the icons for Ethereum(ETH) and USDT

   To keep these coins on the blockchain (both terms defined above), a crypto wallet is needed.

4. Crypto wallets store your private keys, keeping your crypto safe and accessible. They also allow you to send, receive, and spend cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, just like a physical wallet.
5. Next is the Private key — it is an alphanumeric code used in cryptography, similar to a password. It proves ownership or spend the funds associated with your public address. A private key can be a long binary code, 64 digit code or a QR code or a mnemonic phrase.
6. Whereas the private key is private to a user, the public key allows you to receive cryptocurrency transactions. It’s a cryptographic code that’s paired with a private key. While anyone can send transactions to the public key, you need the private key to “unlock” them and prove that you are the owner of the cryptocurrency received in the transaction. The public key that can receive transactions is usually an address, which is simply a shortened form of your public key.
7. Fiat Currency is a Government-issued currency that is not backed by a physical commodity like gold. Examples include the US dollar, euro, and yen.
8. Mining is the process of validating and adding new transactions to a blockchain, that is how transactions are being processed in the blockchain. Miners use powerful computers to solve complex mathematical problems in exchange for rewards in the form of cryptocurrency.
9. Hashrate is the computational power or speed at which a miner or mining network operates in the mining process (explained above), that is how control of processes is executed.

As you see each of these terms above is interconnected. That is how understanding becomes easier. These are the basic terms used in the blockchain and crypto world. It is very important to have a grasp of it so that we can understand furthermore terms.

Visualise this initiative as a vibrant room bustling with determined women, each radiating bright ideas in their eyes and nurturing ambitious plans within their hearts. This journey starts from its very beginning – a clear truth showing the tough challenges that women entrepreneurs in Southeast Asia have faced. These bright minds have had a hard time getting help from mentors, making connections, and fundraising for their projects.

Their stories of trying to succeed have been full of different obstacles, which have made their entrepreneurial journey challenging.. The numbers tell a clear story – according to a report from 2020 by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), only a small 8 percent of money given to new businesses goes to those led by women. This is surprising because these amazing women make up a big 30 percent of all the people trying to start businesses in this area.

However, let’s shift our focus from the challenges to the essence of this initiative.

– the Women in Entrepreneurship Incubator. This safe haven is designed to support the dreams of new female entrepreneurs and those who wish to take their businesses to the next level. A total of SGD$80,000 equity-free seed funding is available for top-performing teams of the incubator. The shortlisted teams from 10 early-stage impact-focused startups will be invited to undergo a series of masterclasses, mentoring, and pitching to be awarded with seed funding for their startups. Here, dreams will be nurtured, and creative ideas will find a welcoming environment to grow.

Made carefully to tackle the problems that have been stopping women from becoming entrepreneurs, this incubator mixes teaching, advice, and financial support to help young women succeed in their businesses. The plan at its core is simple but effective: give these determined women the skills they need and watch them overcome the challenges they face.

Around 20 of these special thinkers from 10 new startups that focus on making a positive impact will be chosen to start a journey of big changes. Their journey goes from October 2023 to March 2024. During this time, they will take part in important classes, get guidance from mentors, and practice presenting their ideas. This journey isn’t just about learning how to run a business; it’s about becoming strong and able to handle challenges. As this important journey reaches its exciting end, a new part begins – some of these startups will get money to start their projects. But there’s something important to note – these chosen teams aren’t just regular startups; they are like guiding lights for making the world a better place.

These startups and their ideas for big changes, need to match at least one of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG). This rule reminds us that business is more than just profit-making. It’s about combining the world of business with the responsibility of making society better.

These women, these leaders of change, won’t just leave with money and knowledge; they will leave with a network. A network that’s like a puzzle made of friends and mentors, a safe place of help that’s always available.

I am sharing this knowledge because I had no idea what these wallets were for when I started my crypto journey, therefore was so confused with all these terms and their usages. Prema Chuttoo

Coming back to the present topic, normally there exist 3 types of wallets — spot, margin and derivatives.

Spot Wallet is a custodial wallet for storing cryptocurrencies. It is the default wallet assigned to users upon registration. As a custodial wallet, Binance holds the private keys on behalf of the users, ensuring ease of use and accessibility. This type of wallet is suitable for beginners or users who prefer convenience over full control of their private keys. Normally users use this wallet to hold their cryptos.

Derivative/Futures wallet is the wallet used when we trade on the market using leverage. So normally we transfer funds from spot wallet to derivative if we want to trade with leverage(like 2x or 3x more than we have in our wallet).Normally this is for experienced traders or even investors who trade for a longer period with greater risk and of course assurance. They bet on leverage because they know the tits and bits of trading.

Margin wallet is used to store the margin is the money borrowed from a broker and the difference between the total value of the investment and the loan amount. This wallet is used mostly by users who lend money on the platforms.

The different wallets are on the Binance platform.

Spot and futures wallets are generally used for holding and trading on almost all platforms. It’s very important to understand these wallets if you want to dive into the crypto adventure. Have fun discovering it.
