CTE founders Joy Abdullah from Kuala Lumpur and Saheb Youssef Bakhsh from Singapore came up with #StayOnTheEdge guest series and #RiseAboveTheEdge thematic series to share with people the immense knowledge available in their network.

No matter what kind of education we have or how many degrees we have earned, there are many things which we can learn from the experiences of other human beings. CTE followers are getting this wonderful opportunity to learn from so many achievers who are sharing their learning in their life amazingly at the CTE show.

Back Story to how  Create The Edge (CTE) came about-

There comes a moment in time when we realize we’re at a crossroad. On one side is the choice to keep doing what one is doing and expect a change in the result. On the other is to listen to one’s heart and take a leap of faith!

This is the story of two men, years apart in age yet, with uncanny similarities in mindset, values, beliefs and, most importantly, with a burning desire to help people and businesses showcase the value they have and create.

Nov 2018 we were jobseekers. Helping each other look for the right roles, network referrals and contacts. Each step of the way both faced many an obstacle of various nature.

Whilst job searching, we were jointly interacting, as freelance consultants in strategy, sales, marketing and business development, with a large number of people and their businesses, ranging from start-ups to corporate leadership, across the globe.

By Feb 2019 we realised that humanising business is a common passion for us.

What is humanising business?

It’s all about being inclusive and appreciative of employees. Instead of treating employees as a payroll cost, it’s about valuing the intelligence and perspectives they bring in their job function to the brand. By engaging and aligning them with the business purpose and empowering them to lead and represent the brand business is able to create a unique brand experience. Unique from the perspective of the experience is an emotional feeling which creates a strong predisposition towards the brand. This is un-imitable, and it grows over time as it is nurtured, thus making it sustainable.

This realization brought home the fact that when individuals C.A.R.E. – Connect, Appreciate, Relate, Engage- it brings about a conducive environment. An environment where each helps the other in order to help themselves.

The journey, for an individual and a business, in doing this is what we call #CreateTheEdge ™®©

C – Connect with your clients
R – Relate to actual needs and requirements
E – Engage meaningfully
A – take necessary Action
T – stay abreast with Transformation
E – Embrace change

the – “how-to” and “by”

E – Empathizing with your team
D – Defining the brand and business purpose
G – Galvanizing and empowering your team
E – Educating clients, employees, stakeholders

This was the genesis of #CreateTheEdge ™® ©. In Feb 2019 to create visibility, we decided to concentrate our efforts on LinkedIn and developed our #StayOnTheEdge guest series and #RiseAboveTheEdge thematic series to share with people the immense knowledge available in our network.

Introducing Collagenic Red Light Therapy

Yafot Wellness is proud to be Singapore’s first wellness centre to offer Collagenic Thermal Therapy. Utilising the Dr Müller Infinity Red Light Therapy Device, conditions and inconveniences can now be quickly improved in as little time as only 30 minutes. Even muscle aches and soreness can now be treated in a fraction of the time.

Coupled with the use of Rare Diamond Thermal Carbon Sheets, an innovation from Japan, the Collagenic Red Light Therapy treats the whole body in its entirety.

 What Is Red Light Therapy

Red Light Therapy is a term that is very popular in the beauty industry. However, what is it exactly and how can it benefit us? Let’s break this down:

Let us start from the beginning. The notion of light therapy first came from NASA. In 1995, the agency conducted experiments on light sources for promoting plant growth in uninhabitable environments. Their results indicate that these lights could help with the growth of plants in space and could be an effective treatment for ailments.

Also, at a wavelength of 633 (Red Light), nanometres these lights can reach the deepest layers of the skin, the dermis layers. When it reaches the dermis layers, it gives the cells a boost that stimulates a response from the body to use the light. Therefore, giving a boost to the rejuvenation process through increased blood flow, collagen stimulation, detoxification process and much more. By impacting cells on a cellular level, red light therapy has shown that it readily brightens one’s skin tone and improves texture.

It also soothes inflammation, improves mild acne, and treats fine lines and wrinkles.

Thanks to its capability to stimulate collagen, red light therapy also aids in pain relief and muscle repair. Those who experience pain in their joints or muscles benefit from red light therapy, because of its regenerative effects to boost joint and musculoskeletal health.

In addition to having red light therapy, with the Rare Diamond Thermal Carbon sheets that complement the treatment, the red light wavelengths are able to pass deeper into the body instead of only skin layers, through skin, fat and muscle and into one’s inorganic bone matter. It amplifies the red light wave resonance, resulting in greater regenerative effects on the body. The entire body gets warmed up for a prolonged period of times through the heat energy and thermal therapy.

Health & Beauty Benefits Of Red Light Therapy

1. Renews Collagen and Elastin Fibers

?Collagen and elastin are the two proteins that naturally exist in our skin as structural support. Collagen is the most copious protein in our body. It is what helps give our skin strength and has the task of replacing dead skin cells. And elastin is the connective tissue, which allows body tissue to resume their original shape after stretching or contracting. However, as you age your skin loses some of its elasticity and firmness, leading to an older complexion.

Collagenic Light reaches the deepest layer of the skin, the dermis layer. The Collagenic Light reactivates the production of collagen, leading to an increase in collagen and elastin proteins.

2. Anti-Ageing: Diminishes Fine Lines and Wrinkles

One use of Collagenic Light that is growing in popularity is its anti-ageing properties. Studies indicate, that when you expose skin to red light, it jump-starts the renewal process of the collagen and elastin cells. This boost leads to fine lines and wrinkles to become less visible. Furthermore, red light improves the overall skin complexion, texture and firmness.

3. Wound Healing and Tissue Repair

Red light at 633 nanometres promotes wound healing and tissue repair. The red light penetrates the skin and increases the rate of cellular regeneration. Light at this wavelength reconstructs fibroblasts, keratinocytes and modulation of immune cells. Meaning, injuries and injured skin tissue recover at a much faster rate.

4. Release of the Happy Hormone

Due to the exposure to light, your body boosts the production of the hormone Serotonin. Serotonin is the body’s natural Happy Hormone. That is why we tend to feel happier and more energetic during the summer months. In that period, red light can stave off moderate depression and seasonal affective disorder (SAD). While results may vary, you can use red light treatments as a natural stimulant and improve your mood.

5. Reduce Cellulite

Collagenic Light treatments increase the oxygenation, detoxification and blood circulation process. This series of actions reduce cellulite fat deposits. The process eliminates stagnant toxins that break down connective tissue, leading to cellulite. As a result, the fat within the connective tissue becomes less after following a red light therapy treatment.

Safety & Side Effects

Unlike most conventional treatments, red light therapy is safe, non-invasive, uses no chemicals or drugs, and is not associated with harmful side effects. Red light therapy simply harnesses the natural healing and rejuvenating benefits of a specific range of therapeutic natural light and delivers this targeted energy at a higher rate than the sun—without harmful UV rays.

A major 2013 study on light therapy conducted by Harvard and MIT researchers praised light therapy for its “noninvasive nature and almost complete absence of side effects.”

This month author Fatema M is sharing great insights about how to bounce back in career after maternity-

Maternity and work!! Both these important phases of a woman’s life are challenging yet beautiful. From a working woman to a magnificent journey of motherhood, it is not an easy highway. But, with some mindful planning, this stress can be relieved.

According to a study by the World Bank in collaboration with the National Sample Survey Organisation, about 20 million Indian women left jobs between 2004-12, of them, as high as 65-70 per cent never returned to work. New moms are filled with emotions, leaving their child at daycare or in the care of someone else would really be heart-wrenching.

How to overcome this loss of workforce? Here are a few simple things which can be adopted & implemented by companies that would benefit new moms: –

  1. Flexibility: Not every woman can do a 9-5 job. Keeping in mind they have to take care of their children also, the work environment should be made flexible so that women can take care of their children and work at the same time.

  2. Salary: Many women fear that they might not get the same pay as they used to get. This is the main reason why most women don’t start working again.

  3. Position: Let’s face it. Most women have to compromise on the position at which they last left. To start afresh seems like a gigantic task.

  4. Child welcoming environment: Heard of pet-friendly offices? Then why not a child-friendly office? Most renowned companies have welcomed babies along with a crèche service. But we need more and more such companies.

“Even after a break – long or short – women possess the ability to build a powerful profile, which mustn’t come as an excuse but as an opportunity.”

From Hilary Clinton to Michelle Obama, Hema Malini to Kareena Kapoor, Kiran Bedi to Mary Kom – these are the perfect real-life examples of women who climbed up the ladder after a career break and made a huge mark in the society. This is not just a successful journey, it speaks of immense capabilities women possess.

To all the women who still feel that it is tough to get a job after a career break, it is far from the truth. A strong urge, positive mind-set and flexibility in approach are the essential tenets for taking up any assignment and succeeding at will.

Few companies which help women after a career break:

  1. Werk is an online platform that connects mothers to the workplace.

  2. Caribu is a video-calling app designed with children in mind.

  3. Jobsforher connects women looking to restart their career.

  4. Sheroes is the most useful & safest social networking app made exclusively for women.

  5. Edumilestones is a popular assessment platform to help women discover various career options.

NHAA Member Naturopath, Herbalist, Nutritionist, Iridologist

Since a teenager, I had asthma and other health conditions. My entire teenage and adult life was filled with visits to doctors, inhalers, painkillers and surgery. The last straw was being rushed in an ambulance to A&E for asthma.

I was driven by circumstances to find a natural and holistic solution for my health challenges and out of sheer desperation I decided to go to Sydney to study to be a Naturopath; so that I could heal myself and pursue my passion in helping to heal others through natural medicine.

I trained in Australia as a Naturopath, Nutritionist Herbalist and Iridologist. Since returning to Singapore in 2006, I’ve been treating clients’ health challenges and supporting them on their path of healing.

I am trained in Functional Medicine, Diagnostics and Drug and Nutrient/Herb Interactions. This enables me to have the expertise to advise you on herbs or nutritional supplements you can or cannot take when you are taking certain drugs or medications from your doctor.

If you are currently receiving treatment elsewhere, I can work with your GP or other holistic health practitioners to help you on your path to healing.

Empowering Communities & Corporates

I love to share my knowledge and have been frequently asked to speak on local TV, Radio and on print media. Local Hospitals, Schools, Polytechnics, Banks and MNCs have also approached me to deliver talks and workshops on health issues.

In 2011, I was voted one of 100 most inspiring real women in Singapore

‘Entrepreneur/Professional of the Month’ for June is an incredible woman who is an amazing multitasker working as an editor of Marketing in Asia Magazine for Singapore and also an Image Branding Consultant. Womenlines takes pleasure to welcome lovely  Zu Anjalika. Listen and read about her interesting professional journey in her own words-

1) Please share with our reader’s little bit about yourself.

An avid traveller, writer and reader, I was born in the beautiful, cosmopolitan city of Singapore. Currently, I am the Editor (Singapore) for Marketing In Asia, a digital magazine which brings to our readers the tips and treats of the industry. As someone who is very passionate about feeling and looking good holistically, I am also an Image Branding and Lifestyle Consultant. I combine both my knowledge (and passion) in the personal image as well as yoga and wellness to create tailor-made courses and workshops for individuals and corporates.

I also own columns in various online and traditional magazines.

In 2017, I was crowned Mrs Singapore Globe. I then represented Singapore in China that same year and was presented with the Children’s Advocate award for the work I had done and will continue to pursue.

Besides travelling, writing and reading, family-time and throwing parties are my favourite ways to unwind. I am a longtime dancer and sometime golfer.

Having lived in various exciting cities of the world, I am now dividing my time between Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Singapore.

2. So when did you start working as an Image Branding Consultant and what inspired or motivated you to take a plunge into this venture?

Image branding work is something that I have always been drawn to. I have been doing this for more than a decade, however, I got myself properly certified in 2016 and never looked back since.

My calling has always been about looking good, not only on the surface but also from the inside. Feeling good is the fuel that drives us an individual and should not be neglected and looking good is the by-product of the former.

I have lived in various places across the globe and always felt there is some void in terms of personal image and feeling good holistically, everywhere. Majority of the people go about their day not bothering about what they wear, how they look and this, in turn, makes their day blah and lacklustre.

Studies everywhere have noted that there is a deep correlation between feeling and looking good and hey, the expression ‘when you look good, you feel good’ says it all.

3) Can you share with us some of the challenges you faced during your initial days?

This is a challenge I still face; people have the perception that image branding is about being something or someone they are not. On the contrary, image branding is all about tapping into one’s unique traits and enhancing them.

Also, there is such a misconception that image branding workshops or sessions are expensive and only made for those with money; that is completely incorrect. Buzz me to know more; you will be pleasantly surprised.

 4) So how do you balance your personal and professional life?

I am a wife and mom of two boys (aged seven and eight) and love the space I am in right now. I am so grateful to be living in an era where women are applauded to have both family and career. On top of that, jobs that allow me to revolve my time around my family’s schedule. We do not have a full-time helper, however, our part-time help comes around twice a week and a babysitter that comes in whenever we need her; I call them my lifelines.

To me, however, my biggest gratitude is my hands-on husband who is very supportive in everything that I do. Despite having very busy work and travelling schedules himself, Paal (Gunnulfsen) will take over the kids or running of the household at the drop of a hat anytime I need him to and that includes my very-often shuttles to Singapore.

In short, time management is crucial and spousal support, imperative!

5) What would you suggest to other aspiring women who want to venture out on

their own?

Just do it already! I made the mistake of overthinking everything that I do at the start; from launching the business to publishing my website. Truth is, nothing is ever going to be perfect; you can tweak as you go along. The most important thing is embarking on that very first step.

6)Is there any person who has mentored/supported/inspired you?

I draw inspirations from various people and places that I go to. The kind of people I follow on my social media are the types of people I aspire to be; self-made, street-smart, loyal, fun and have a sense of humour that get them through the darker times in this super noisy world we live in right now.

7)What do you have in the pipeline for your venture’s future development?

I plan to continue reaching out to far away from individuals through my online image branding sessions. We live in an amazing time where I can be seated in a hotel room in Singapore but literally go on a shopping trip with a client in Hong Kong, who is picking up the ensemble for his corporate dinner that very night. Technology is often said to be either a friend or a foe; in this instance, it is an absolute friend and this type of possibility gives me so much positive energy.

There are plans to do some image branding work in the region; in pretty much-untapped places and I am absolutely excited for this to come through.

Yafot Wellness is organising a complimentary talk on the topic  ‘Ladies Harness your Anger’. This talk is being conducted by the Homeopathic Health Consultant Dr Charuta Deshpande, who is having 6 years experience in her field. She brings her experience in psychological well being to shed light on how to harness one’s anger for better health in life-

‘Anger’ in women, is one emotion that is addressed very rarely. Knowingly or unknowingly being a woman we have learnt to control, hide or gulp down our anger in daily lives, whether it is just irritation, frustration, anger or rage. From my clinical experience, the constant dialogue that women have with themselves, of what should I do to make everyone happy? What should I do to prove my worth? What should I do to save this relationship? Will I accomplish anything by getting angry? How can I best fulfil my duty? Why don’t people accept me like I am? form the basis of their anger. It drains a lot of their energy, leaving them with no enough mental space for self-care.

Anger when unexpressed or inadequately expressed stays there like a wound. If expressed inappropriately can disturb personal well being and hurt people around you. These long-standing emotional wounds are carried forward as physical chronic pain, psychosomatic disorders and mental health issues. Some of the common physical disorders that arise from the ‘stress of anger’ are chronic muscular pains, hormonal, uterine, nervous, migraines and asthama. Psychological problems like low mood, sleep disturbances, nervousness are also seen frequently.

“Ladies, Harness your Anger” a wellness talk @ Yafot wellness by our very experienced psychological well-being Homoeopathic consultant, Dr Charuta aims at bringing more awareness and understanding about the complex emotion of anger. In the process, empowers you with some practical strategies to express your anger appropriately.

Thus, it’s time to harness the power of ‘emotion of Anger’ by acknowledging the parts that make it valuable and fixing the parts that make it so damn exhausting.

This talk is on  6th July, at 2:00 pm- 4:00 pm, at 360, Orchard Road, #03-16/17, International Building, Singapore, 238869. Please RSVP to +65 69511220 or +65 87385400. You can also email at info@yafotwellness.com to register.
