Womenlines takes pleasure to welcome Eitu Vij Chopra, founder of Karmic Therapy by Eitu, Co-founder & Chief Curator at Rex Ideas for action/life as an Influencer for Alternative therapies. Eitu provides holistic professional and personalized healing and psychic counselling for every facet of human life be it professional, financial or personal, helping people achieve their goals. This month Eitu has shared about the impact of ambient colours on human behaviour through colour therapy-

Nature always wears the colours of the spirit- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Colour is the life around us in the form of nature that displays its riot all year round and announces the ever-changing hues and seasons with songs of colour. The visual language that a colour embodies is processed first before we become aware of it consciously. The snow that may seem just white has myriad hues of white to a blue that makes it so calming and quiet’s the mind. And the same goes for sand each speck and grain of sand plays up with the sunrays to simmer in rainbow colours, creates mirages and gives hope.

Colour matters

Scientific studies have been carried out into the impact of ambient colours on human behaviour and body. Professor Nancy Kowalek (University of Texas, Austin) has studied the effect of colours on performance and life. Studies and research show that colours have a deep effect on moods, performance and productivity or
motivation and inspiration. Colours have played a very significant role in dynasties, cultures, religions, armies to corporate.
Organizations and institution have a colour that speaks of their philosophy, ethos and ideologies that they stand by. Since colour is a potent tool for communication on many levels hence the emphasis of its use worldwide in marketing a brand or to profess a philosophy.
The science and significance of colours as well as its tangible learning that plays a pivotal role in learning at every age and more so its effect on our psychology and mind has been worthy of its use in teaching tools and programs in schools worldwide. For Example Red is a sign of caution, danger passion and urgency and energy. Think why the STOP sign at the traffic signal is RED and the colour of LOVE to the same. Yellow stands for cheerfulness, friendliness, intellect, energy and warmth, think why a smile is yellow always and the sun is shown as yellow always and it’s not just like that that SUN is the biggest source of ENERGY in the universe.
White is the colour of freshness, hope, good light, purity and simplicity. Think of the colour of Dove the universal symbol of peace, a white colour used in summers to cool and white light for calmness in the hospitals.
Holi represents the arrival of spring and the triumph of good over evil. Traditionally the colours used in Holi came from flowers and herbs—which in the hot climate of India tend to produce bright natural dyes and the festival is replete with symbolism and mythology that talks of burning away the darkness and celebrating with colours with the onset of spring with gaiety and frolic. The deeper meanings are that the world is an illusion and life is passing by and yet it is filled with colours of the rainbow. It is the festival of renewal and forgetting the past and celebrating the NOW and power of CHANGE.

Colours have a deep impact on our mind and thoughts and the energy

Ways to balance energy and Chakras through colours of nature are:
Food or Nutrition Therapy: All-natural food in the environment have colours, each colour represent a specific nutritional supplement for repairing, building of different vital organs and emotions. For example, eating naturally orange food like papaya, melon almonds, walnuts mandarins, orange is good for kidney, liver, pancreas and reproductive organ health. One of the ways to heal the CHAKRAS is through Nutrition. A beautiful way of healing your energy centres that is the chakras of the body is by Nutrition and Colour therapy of food, supplements in colour is specific to each chakra and energy Centre and body organ and mental well-being. It’s a science to eat well to live well.

Colour Visualization: for different body parts also helps to align energy and give physical and mental calm during mediation.

Crystals: Crystals have energy and they grow and emit energy and have an impact on body energy centres and mind. Their power/energy is so important that for this reason, they are one of the most important components used in the circuitry of all electronic gadgets from phones to computers and so on. In the same way, they have the power to supplement our body and mind with energy. For example, citrine gives us clarity, confidence and raises our self-esteem hence helps in making a decision, making money and thus attaining self-power.

Womenlines takes pleasure to have Shikha Rinchin Tiku as a guest contributor at Womenlines panel. Rinchin is sharing a very interesting article about the real significance of prayer rituals and items-

My grandmother was thoroughly religious and ritualistic. Her mornings would start at 3:30 AM and she’d visit the temple everyday at 5:00 AM. She had this plastic basket that she’s carry with her to the temple. She used to call it her “Mandar Tookir” – “The Temple basket”. It’d have some books, vermilion, sandalwood paste, mirror, dhoop, diya, copper vessel, fresh batch of flowers plucked from our garden, and more. I’d often be fascinated by this possession of hers and would often make my own “pooja plate” to carry some of these items when I’d go along with her.

While it piqued my curiosity, I never really understood the real meaning and significance of the items in her basket, or of the offerings that we make to the deities in the temples. So I did the research and it left me awestruck.

While outwardly pooja may appear as a mechanical ritual, it has a great hidden significance. The act of pooja is a symbolic offering of one’s thoughts, desires, actions, and possessions to God as a mark of devotion and surrender.

Let’s now look at some common items used in pooja and their significance:

  1. The sacred vessel – Poorna Kalash: It stands for mother goddess in general, or goddess Lakshmi in particular. The pot represents the mother earth, the flowers represent the ornamentation, the rice in the bowl represents either the material wealth or the powers of the goddess or both, and the coconut represents the divine consciousness.
  2. Food offered to the diety – Naivedyam: It stands for the gross body(made of food) and worldly possessions. It is ones ignorance(avidya) that the body and the worldly possessions are real possessions, that’s offered to God
  3. Flowers – Pushpam: Flowers represent whatever that blossoms in you, be it good or evil, intelligence or delusion, and knowledge or ignorance. By offering them to God, you cleanse yourself. By offering flowers, the worshipper also declares their tenderness of his feelings towards God.
  4. Fruits – Phalam: Phala means results. By offering fruits, we symbolically offer the diety the fruit of our actions and achievements.
  5. Incense – Dhoopam: The smoke which arises from the incense represents our clouded consciousness, delusion and ignorance. By symbolically offering them to God we cleanse our minds and bodies and cultivate discerning wisdom.
  6. Lamp – Deepam: Itrepresents knowledge, wisdom, purity and divinity. By offering it to God we request him to endow us with these divine qualities & save us from the darkness of the mortal world and the negative consequences of our karma.
  7. Tilak – Coloured paste Kumkum(saffron) and turmeric powder represent tamas(darkness) and rajas (worldliness) respectively. By offering them we seek the predominance of sattva (goodness).

Pooja is an opportunity for us to establish direct communication with the higher consciousness. During pooja our soul, the mind and the body wholly participate. We must have great reverence towards the process and perform it with utmost devotion.

I hope this article satiated your curiosity too. Please feel free to share the local folklore about the significance of these in your culture too!

It is a pleasure to share about Senior Physiotherapist Shubhangi Gaikwad from the United Arab Emirates as an  Influencer for health and fitness at Womenlines panel. A Dedicated PT offering 10 years of acute-chronic care experience; a history of “exemplary” ratings on performance reviews; solid credentials that include, BLS/Dry needling/Manual Therapy certifications /certified FMT and a master’s degree in physical therapy in Neurology. This month Shubhnagi is sharing about what precautions you should be taking to prevent injuries while working from home-

With the demand for social distancing and fight against COVID-19, most of us are restricted at home. As this is a shift for a human being, from busy moving lifestyle to contained inside the home for days and days can remarkably cause an impact on physical and mental wellbeing. Work from home leads to many overuse injuries as we compromise on small details of ergonomics at home. Let us understand why we can end up in pain and how we can prevent ourselves? And work efficiently.

Working from home for many professionals can lead to various overuse injuries as

  • Tendinitis in wrist
  • Lateral epicondylitis
  • Neck muscle strain
  • Low back pain
  • Poor postural development
  • Postural scoliosis
  • knee pain
  • weight gain

All these mentioned ailments can occur during longtime work from home. Let us see the reason behind it

  1. The poor ergonomic arrangement at home.
  2. Being lazy and adapting to poor posture.
  3. Choosing the wrong place/corner at home to work.
  4. No breaks
  5. Multitasking home and office work

How we can lower down or eliminate the chances of injury and stay home and work safely and efficiently?

  1. Keep your routine discipline as usual: keep your daily routine as before, like a wake up on time, start and finish your work same as your office hour.
  2. Set break time: keep your break time, set alarm and remind yourself as per your routine office timing.
  3. Active breaks: even at home, it’s important for all of us to change our posture every 30 minutes. If you are sitting a long time, make sure you get up from seat every 30 minutes and spend 3 minutes standing/walking. This prevents constant pressure on the spine.
  4. Correct ergonomics arrangement at home: now most of the people think just having the right chair and table is enough to have perfect ergonomics, but that’s a wrong concept. Everyone work is different, for example, a tax consultant spends more time over keyboard whereas the designer works more with mouse/cursor to create designs. Therefore, the arrangement for both will be different.

So, getting a personalized ergonomic consultation is always recommended. To create the workplace according to your work, body and within the limit of resources, you have at home. Everything available online is generalized, not person-specific. The correct choice of the seating arrangement, cushions thickness, the height of desk/ monitor, supporting rolls etc is very crucial to prevent you from pain and injury.

  • Engage in exercise: take out time at least 20 minutes for doing simple exercises at home as whole-body stretching/sun salutations/ dancing etc something to keep your body physically fit. At this point of time, the goal of physical fitness has changed from being progressively attaining sharpness in our physical fitness level to rather maintain our body is sound physical health and not to deteriorate what we have achieved through our consistence effort.
  • Keep yourself hydrated: as at home many of us are drawn toward fridge frequently, make sure you do same for drinking water. In-office we generally keep bottles to keep sipping water in between. So, don’t forget the same at home. Keep two water bottle in your workplace and keep sipping. Also, you can set water alarms on your mobile.
  • Meditation:  Yes, we all need to practice at least 15-25 minutes of meditation. There are so many app/guided mediation videos available online, follow one which you can easily relate to. Meditation gives peace and mental strength to stay focuses and positive in conditions like this when we are seeing all the negative news and worsening situation every passing time.

Working from has many positive aspects too as

  • You are constantly with your family.
  • Saving travelling time and expenses.
  • Creating space and time for yourself.
  • Can pursue a hobby in leisure time.

Now is the time when we must take care of our physical and mental wellbeing to keep fighting until this war against COVID-19 over. Maintaining your body and mind fit should be the only goal for now. Every small effort now on your health will keep you healthy and safe.

Working from home is a blessing for our generation due to advancement of technology. We should make maximum use of it efficiently. Creating your perfect workstation at home can prevent you from injury and pain. Maintaining a set routine will help you give proper timing for your work, exercise, family and yourself.

#Stay home #stay safe # work from home efficiently

It is a pleasure to welcome Suzanne Alfandari, Motivational Interviewing Trainer, EFT Tapping Trainer, and Licensed Therapist from California in ‘Health is Wealth’ show at Womenlines!

Suzanne Alfandari, M.S., a California, USA, licensed psychotherapist and trainer of mental health providers, has been working with people for over 20 years, supporting them in reaching their goals.

She is an Emotional Freedom Techniques, EFT Tapping coach, working with people around the world, and is a contributing author to the book, Clinical EFT Handbook:  A Definitive Resource for Practitioners, Scholars, Clinicians, and Researchers.  Vol 1.

Suzanne ‘s work is most effective for clients who are insightful and successful but still struggling with depression, anxiety, emotional/physical trauma, or feeling stuck in life and are ready to change now.

Suzanne knows, supporting clients with positive results into greater creativity and life satisfaction, can happen within a relatively short period of time.

Suzanne is a member of MINT, the International Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers. She combines Motivational Interviewing with EFT Tapping, helping guide clients to their desired goals.

EFT, Emotional Freedom Technique, employs the use of clients tapping their fingers on 10 acupuncture meridian points, while repeating specific statements suggested by the coach, from the information the client provides. These techniques help eliminate negative beliefs, accelerating the body’s natural ability to heal itself physically, mentally and emotionally.

Over 100 clinical trials published in peer-reviewed medical and psychology journals clearly demonstrate that EFT is effective for • phobias • anxiety • depression • physical and emotional pain • posttraumatic stress disorders (e.g. PTSD). Additionally, EFT treatment can help people improve their business, athletic and artistic performance.

Girls Play Global is a non-profit initiative to educate and empower girls in rural India through the power of sports. We aim to combat gender discrimination against girls and improve their self-confidence, physical fitness, and mental wellness through free soccer training. We also believe that creating awareness about global issues like climate change and gender equality is crucial to the success of any girl, so our organization educates girls about the United Nations SDGs using sports as a creative tool. By providing them with access to safe playing fields and tournaments, girls are able to enhance their abilities and become better role models in their communities.

Girls Play Global is in the process of expanding our reach across India. We are currently focused on government and government-aided schools in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, but we are looking to support many more schools that are in need of equipment and coaches to establish a girls soccer team.
