Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Hair Care

hair care

Your hair may be a defining feature, but you might not know much about your hair and how to care for it. Explore a few facts about your luscious locks.

No matter your hair’s style, color, texture, or length, your hair is most likely a significant part of your life and signature look. While you may know a few things about skincare, hair care is a different story. There’s nothing better than freshly washed, shiny locks, but many things can go awry when it comes to trying new hair

products. Check out a few things you probably didn’t know about hair care.

You Should Clean Your Hair Utensils

Brushes, combs, clips, and anything else that touches your hair needs to be clean. With that in mind, you should clean your hair utensils at least once each month to prevent bacteria and product build-up. Excess product accumulation can make your hair look greasy or dirty, even if you’ve just washed it. Furthermore, bacteria can cause infections, irritation, and itchiness on your scalp. For optimal results, soak your utensils in hot water and dish soap for at least 30 minutes to remove any hair and debris.

Shedding Hair Is Completely Normal

Despite what you may think, shedding hair daily is completely normal. Shedding hair may be worrisome to many, but it’s a natural process our bodies use to keep our hair healthy and strong. In fact, the average person may lose between 50 and 150 strands of hair each day. As soon as it falls out, another strand begins growing in its place.

You Shouldn’t Brush Wet Hair

Although it may be tempting to rip through your tangled, wet hair with a brush, you should avoid brushing your wet hair at all costs. Water makes your hair more elastic, and it can stretch up to 30 per cent more than its normal length when damp. As a result, your hair becomes much more prone to breakage; therefore, you should brush your hair prior to washing. Before drying, you should use only a wide tooth comb to detangle it.

You Should Shampoo Your Roots and Condition Your Ends While you may believe you need to shampoo and condition your hair from root to tip, that’s really not the best technique. The shampoo contains ingredients that are great for cleansing and removing oil from your scalp and roots but can otherwise dry out your strands. On the other hand, the conditioner contains moisturizing ingredients that provide hydration for your hair, but it can build up on your scalp and cause excess oil around your roots.

With that in mind, you should shampoo only your roots and condition only your ends. Believe it or not, some hair product ingredients cause acne; some elements are good for your hair but can wreak havoc on your skin.

After learning a few things you probably didn’t know about hair care, you should have a better idea of how to care for your gorgeous locks. Whether you have tons of hair or your strands are a little thinner, you can benefit from getting into a routine using the best products and techniques.
