Ashwagandha is one of the most important herbs in Ayurveda, which is a traditional form of alternative medicine based on Indian principles of natural healing. The name “ashwagandha” describes the smell of its root, which means “like a horse.” For many years, people have used the roots and fruit of ashwagandha for medicinal purposes. The herb is also known as Indian ginseng or winter cherry.
